Benchmark International Arena hosts open house, free skate on NHL ice

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Benchmark International Arena welcomed visitors all weekend long for an open house event to celebrate the recent name change and upcoming Tampa Bay Lightning season.

“This is fun for the whole family, and we are so excited to welcome Tampa Bay residents into our building,” said Angela Lanza with Vinik Sports Group.

Events included a Lightning watch party on Friday, a free country music concert on Saturday, and a sold-out open skate on the NHL ice alongside a movie on the jumbotron on Sunday. Hundreds of skaters booked out every time slot to access the ice from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

“We couldn’t believe the turnout,” added Lanza.

The ownership group said the event was focused on bringing the community together, and everything was free of charge. Other similar events are planned for the future.
