Bucs’ Baker Mayfield named FedEx Air & Ground NFL Player of the Week

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield was named a FedEx Air & Ground Player of the Week for Week 5 after leading his team to a 38-35 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

Mayfield joins Josh Allen as the only quarterbacks to win the award at least once in each of the past three seasons.

The tight matchup against the Seahawks in Week 5 ended up being Mayfield’s fourth fourth-quarter comeback of the season, with his performance setting records.

Mayfield completed 29 of 33 passes for 379 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions.

It marked the first regular season occurrence in NFL history where a player threw for more than 375 yards and had fewer than five incompletions.

Only Peyton Florida Florida manning and Kurt Warner have accomplished that feat in a playoff game.

Mayfield’s 87.9% completion rate was also the highest recorded by any quarterback this season, and established a new single-game high among all Bucs quarterbacks with more than 30 attempts in a game.

Since his arrival in 2023, Mayfield is tied for the league lead in touchdown passes and ranks second in passing yards, while leading Tampa Bay to consecutive NFC South division titles.

The former No. 1 overall pick has now earned 16 weekly awards in his career.
