Bucs Bonus: Tampa Bay looking for similar results in Wild Card rematch against Washington

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — When it comes to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, few people are as in the know as Bucs’ legend Rondé Barber.

The Hall of Fame cornerback played his entire 16-year career in Tampa and accumulated three first-team All-Pro and two second-team All-Pro selections, five Pro Bowl nods, and was selected to the NFL’s 2000 All-Decade Team. And, of course, he helped Tampa Bay win Super Bowl 37, the team’s first Lombardi Trophy.

Barber never doubted he’d wind up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The undersized cornerback’s journey included some of the most memorable plays in Tampa Bay Buccaneers history, as well as five trips to Canton in which he resisted the temptation to step foot in the building where he’ll be enshrined as part of a class of nine 2023 inductees. With the Buccaneers gearing up for their fifth straight Post Season run, Barber joins a special episode of Bucs Bonus to talk about what the team needs to do to contain rookie quarterback phenom Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders offense that has leveled up since the two teams met in week one.

While the defense will look to slow down Daniels, the offense will look to continue its dominance. New offensive coordinator Liam Cohen has helped the Bucs become a top-five offense in 2024 and helped quarterback Baker Mayfield have the best statistical year of his career.

The offense also featured Tampa Bay’s first 1,000-yard rusher in rookie Bucky Irving, gotten major contributions from fellow rookie Jalen McMillan, and saw future Hall of Famer Mike Evans tie Jerry Rice’s record for most consecutive seasons with 1,000 receiving yards in NFL History.

During the week one matchup, Tampa Bay jumped out to an early 13-0 lead and stayed in control on their way to a 37-20 victory.

Since then, Washington has improved on offense and currently ranks fifth in the league in points per game, one spot behind Tampa Bay who ranks fourth.
