TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got their 2024 season off on the right foot with a 37-20 win over the Washington Commanders.
On Monday, head coach Todd Bowles was joined by News Channel 8’s Dan Lucas for their first “Bucs with Bowles” interview of the season.
Bowles was pleased with the performance of the offense, playing its first full game under new coordinator Liam Coen. Quarterback Baker Mayfield finished the game with 289 yards passing and four touchdown passes.
However, there could have been a lot more points.
Three of the first four offensive series for the Bucs ended with field goals.
Defensively, the Bucs did a good job of limiting the Commanders’ run game, bolstered by the ability of quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Daniels accounted for 88 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns.
Most important after the game was the status of the Bucs’ defensive backfield, which saw four players injured during the game: Josh Hayes, Zyon McCollum, Bryce Hall, and Antoine Winfield Jr.
Bowles will wait until all the injuries are evaluated before moving forward, the options include signing tryout players before practices begin later this week for the team’s game at the Detroit Lions.
