Clearwater Beach hosts ReliaQuest Bowl Beach Day

CLEARWATER BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — It’s a tradition 39 years in the making— the ReliaQuest Bowl and it’s Michigan versus Alabama.

The ReliaQuest Bowl Beach Day on Clearwater Beach kicked off at 11 a.m. with the festivities. But fans started lining their beach chairs up for a close view of the action much earlier.

“We love this. We love all the activities in the area, that’s why we get out here and enjoy it,” Chris Kelly from Philadelphia said, “And to have these top-notch college teams out here, it’s a great thing.”

There were plenty of family-friendly fun to enjoy.

“Two iconic programs, so it’s great to watch that, to see that. We’re looking forward to all the activities today,” Bob Hollander from Michigan said. “Also here with our grandkids so we’re going to have some fun today.”

Aside from beach games, there were skydivers and even a key lime pie eating contest. For some here today, it was all about the team bands.

“We enjoy the bands! These bands are just incredible. That’s what we come for,” Kelly said.

Sunday’s ReliaQuest Bowl Beach Day is another chance for Clearwater Beach to show just how successful the clean-up efforts post hurricanes Milton and Helene have been.

“It’s amazing what these cities have done to get things back in shape and back in operating,” Kelly said.

The party doesn’t stop on Sunday— there are more activities planned, like a parade tomorrow in Ybor City. The ReliaQuest Bowl game is scheduled for New Year’s Eve at Raymond James Stadium. Tickets start at $80.
