Detectives looking for answers following fatal Lakeland crash

LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) – The Lakeland Police Department has provided an update to crash that occurred on June 5. 

According to Lakeland police, Cleon Truedell almost hit a Lakeland Police Officer as the officer attempted to take down his information for a possible traffic infraction. 

Police say Truedell was driving with a revoked driver’s license and was also driving with what police say was a “trafficking amount of suspected methamphetamine.”

According to police, dash cam video captured Truedell reach speeds approaching 100mph before running a red light and crashing into the driver of Mitsubishi sedan before ultimately hitting a utility pole and cross-walk sign.

Both Truedell and the driver of the Mitsubishi later died from their injuries.  Police continue to seek any additional information from witnesses that might provide information as to the whereabouts of Truedell prior that might explain his actions that caused this crash.
