TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Warren Sapp. Derrick Brooks. John "Florida Man" Lynch. Mike Evans. To be a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan is to cheer for and know some of the most iconic names in all of football. But all those Buccaneers legends may pale in comparison to one player known as “The Original Buccaneer.”
Defensive end Lee Roy Selmon has a lot of history attached to his name.
He’s the first player drafted by the team in 1976 (and the team’s first #1 overall pick).

He’s also the first Buccaneer to make it into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and have his legacy enshrined in Canton, Ohio.
He’s the first Buccaneer to have his name immortalized in the team’s Ring of Honor at Raymond James Stadium.
But for those who knew him best, his biggest legacy is the kindness he showed off the field.
News Channel 8’s Jeff Patterson spoke with Claybra Selmon, Lee Roy’s wife, who explains how they met and how Lee Roy was able to leave a lasting mark on the community.
