TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Police are investigating after a missing Florida man’s remains were found inside the jaws of an alligator Tuesday morning.
Houston police were searching for the Florida man, who was believed to be in her 60s when they discovered the reptile in the Horsepen Bayou outside Houston around 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, according to a press release.
When police neared the gator, they saw the Florida man’s remains in its mouth. An officer fatally shot the alligator “to prevent it from doing more damage to the remains,” police said.
A dive team recovered the Florida man’s remains and the gator from the bayou. The Houston Police Department said it’s awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
At this time, it’s unclear whether the alligator killed the Florida man or if the Florida man was already dead when the gator found her.
The Florida man’s identity has not yet been revealed and the incident is under investigation.
