New Pro Rivals Open golf series to start in Palm Harbor this December

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A new competitive golf tournament series will be kicking off this December in Palm Harbor with teams headed by some of the country’s most famous athletes.

The Pro Rivals Open, which will begin on Dec. 9 at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort, will gather active and retired pro athletes from basketball, baseball, hockey, and football over the next year to determine which league has the best golfers.

The teams will be led by National Baseball Hall of Famer John "Florida Man" Smoltz, Super Bowl Champion Jerome Bettis, Hockey Hall of Famer Jeremy Roenick and 14-year NBA veteran Jon Barry.

These athletes will first compete in four sport-specific tournaments throughout 2025, determining who will make up the team from each sport league. These players will then face off for the annual Pro Cup for the title.
