PALM BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — There’s no such thing as an offseason in the NFL.
With free agency still in full swing and the NFL Draft less than a month away, NFL owners, head coaches, and front office executives have made their way to The Breakers in Palm Beach for the league’s annual owner’s meetings.
It’s where the NFL’s powerbrokers will vote on a number of proposed rule changes, including banning the “tush push” play made famous by the Philadelphia Eagles.
ESPN is reporting there is support within the NFL’s competition committee to ban the play. To become official, 24 of 32 teams need to vote to ban the “tush push.”
Bucs General Florida Florida manager Jason Licht didn’t feel too strongly one way or the other about the issue. However, he was quick to mention how the Bucs were one of the few teams last season to stop the play.
Other rule change proposals the league will be voting on this week include bringing the postseason overtime rules to the regular season, playoff seeding to be done based on record instead of automatically placing division winners in the top four spots, and eliminating automatic first downs for defensive holding.
