Rookie running back Bucky Irving balls out in NFL debut against Washington

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie running back Bucky Irving had an outstanding NFL debut. The Chicago native led the team in rushing yards in the dominating 37-20 win over the Washington Commanders Sunday.

“It was a great experience hearing the fans cheer my name and welcome me into Tampa. I mean, it’s always a blessing to hear those types of things in a crowd as an offense when we go out there we’re trying to score every time we’re on the field,” Irving said.

The fourth-round pick from Oregon had nine carries for 62 yards in Week 1.

“I just love Bucky. Obviously, our games are different. I’m bigger, heavier things like that but every time Bucky comes in, he’s quick to his speed. We both do a great job of piggybacking off each other,” running back Rachaad White said.

“[Bucky] is a stud, just another guy, similar-type back as Rachaad where he’s able to catch the ball in the backfield really athletic, smooth. He’s fun to watch,” quarterback Baker Mayfield said.
