Rowdies’ Leo Fernandes set to break club record

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Leo Fernandes made his 173rd appearance in all competitions for the Rowdies this past weekend, matching Georgi Hristov’s modern-era club record.

His next appearance will set a new modern-era Rowdies record at 174.

“I’m super grateful. Every time I get to put on the Rowdies jersey, I don’t take that for granted a lot of people who played here before know how heavy the jersey is,” Rowdies’ midfielder Leo Fernandes said.

“He brings a lot of attributes to the team. The best part about it is he’s very humble and works hard hard,” Rowdies head coach Robbie Neilson said.

The Rowdies remain third in the Eastern Conference standings heading into the weekend. However, Detroit City FC has moved to within one point in fourth place. The third and fourth places teams in the conference are guaranteed a home match in the first round of the playoffs.

With five matches remaining in the regular season, the Rowdies (46 pts) currently need nine more points to clinch a playoff spot for the sixth straight season.
