Suspects who fled troopers arrested after returning to scene for backpack of drugs: FHP

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A traffic stop on I-75 (Alligator Alley) ended in a drug arrest, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) State Troopers announced Monday.

On Sunday, troopers attempted to stop a BMW X3 on I-75 for speeding. As the BMW began to pull over, the driver accelerated and attempted to flee, FHP said.

As the BMW fled, troopers said the passenger rolled down the window and threw a black backpack out of the vehicle.

After attempting to stop the BMW, which hit speeds of 155 mph during the escape, troopers instead returned and found the backpack, which was full of drugs, paraphernalia, needles, money, and other equipment.

Investigators said the same BMW was spotted around 2:29 a.m. Monday returning to the area to find the backpack.

Both suspects, 29-year-old Gedarious Geffrard of Deerfield Beach and 35-year-old Joseph Dormelus of Pompano Beach, were arrested and booked into the Collier County Jail, investigators said.

Geffrard faces charges of drug possession, trafficking, drug paraphernalia possession, and tampering with evidence.

Dormelus is facing charges of fleeing/eluding, driving while their license is suspended, drug possession, trafficking, drug paraphernalia possession, and tampering with evidence.
