Tampa Bay Sun FC celebrate title with boat parade

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Sports fans celebrated another title in “Champa Bay” Wednesday with a boat parade to honor the inaugural USL Super League, the Tampa Bay Sun FC.

This is the first time a trophy celebration on the waters of Tampa Bay will honor a championship in women’s sports.

“To all the little girls and boys, we were in your shoes one day,” said Jordyn Listro, team captain of the Tampa Bay Sun. “Dream big, because dreams do happen.”

The team clinched the title in a match versus Fort Lauderdale United Saturday at Riverfront Stadium.

Players and coaches boarded boats in downtown Tampa and made their way up the Hillsborough River to the docks at Armature Works. Mayor Jane Castor and fans greeted the team at the pier.

Players hoisted the trophy marking a historic season start to finish.

“You can always win a championship at any point, but to be the first that takes something special,” Tampa Bay Sun Player Jade Moore said.

“We could not be more excited or more proud of this team,” Tampa Mayor Jane Castor said.

The team said they were already looking forward to defending their title when the new season starts in August.
