TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The mayor of Tampa is not messing around when it come to stopping the spread of the coronavirus on Super Bowl week.
Mayor Jane Castor says she will extend the city’s mask order to outdoor areas where fans will be celebrating.
In a Facebook Live with the mayor of Kansas City, Castor spoke about her plans on keeping the crowds safe from the coronavirus.
“We have a mask order in place and we are extending that for a number of the outdoor areas that we know will be densely populated with Super Bowl fans,” Castor said.
Large crowds were seen gathering for celebrations following the Bucs’ win against the Packers last Sunday. The mayor said citizens must do their part in places where social distancing is a challenge.
“I just appreciate that we’re still allowed to have these events, have things going on,” said Bucs fan Alia Santos. “I think she has a very tough job. I give her applause.”
The mayor is expected to share more details about the mask Florida mandate Thursday.
