BARTOW, Fla. — The Bartow 8U Allstars baseball team is 29-0 this season. The team is hoping to carry that winning streak straight to the top, the Cal Ripken World Series.
Baseball game after baseball game, the Bartow 8U Allstars dominated in their division.
“We’ve played six tournaments as an all-star team. They’ve won every single championship. They’ve been first seed going into every single championship Sunday, and like I said, out of all six of those tournaments, they’ve only given up 35 runs and they’ve scored almost 300,” said Bartow 8U Allstars Coach Logan Durrance.
Coach Durrance knew early on that his young team was on to something.
“Oh, we’ve known. These boys are special. They’ve been together for years now. In our age group, it’s six innings of baseball. Other teams, maybe three or four, they’ll fall apart. This team will play the entire game together,” said Durrance.
Now the boys are putting their game faces on against the top competition out there.
“It feels really fun to go from Florida to Tennessee to Florida again,” said 2nd baseman Camden Sumner.
Coach Durrance says for his team, it boils down to both discipline and the love of the game.
“The time they step on the field, they’re locked in. It’s unbelievable,” said Durrance.
Of course, these players have major league goals, but for now, playing in this clay already feels like they’ve made it to the big time.
“I am in the dream,” said Camden.
