TAMPA, FLA. (WFLA) —Legendary ESPN broadcaster Dick Vitale’s return to broadcasting was delayed after an accident at home, according to a statement released on social media.

In the statement posted to X, Vitale announced that an accident in his Florida home had created some physical limitations and health challenges that he emphasized were unrelated to his previous battles with cancer.

Vitale was set to call the Duke-Wake Forest men’s college basketball game next week, marking his first time on-air since 2023.

According to Vitale, he is expected to make a full recovery.
