TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Tampa Bay Sun Football Club will kick off its first season Sunday night at Riverfront Stadium in Tampa.
The professional women’s soccer team will play the Dallas Trinity at 6:30 p.m.
8 On Your Side met up with some aspiring pro soccer players to find out how this historical day in Tampa impacts them.
“It’s super exciting because sometimes you can just think to yourself, ‘this could be us one day,” said youth soccer player Lizzie Marticke.
Natalie Feltham, Felicity Feltham, Eva Rodriguez, and Lizzie Marticke are all in elementary school and play club soccer together.
They spent gameday morning looking up their favorite players on the Tampa Bay Sun.
“I looked up Viv,” said Marticke. “She plays defender and she’s really aggressive and that’s what I do when I’m a defender.”
“I was looking up Riler Parker,” said Rodriguez. “I learned that she was a forward like me. She went to the University of Alabama and her age is 24.”
Fans can take a free water taxi from Armature Works to the game where thousands of fans are expected to cheer on the Sun.
The team will ride into the game on the river via boat.
The Tampa Bay Sun FC expects a sold-out show for their first game. Click here for a link to the page to buy tickets.
