VIDEO: Doctors visit rare white Florida alligator

MIAMI, Fla. (WFLA) — A white alligator in Florida is getting checked out by doctors.

Casper, a rare leucistic alligator, already had skin cancer and unfortunately, he is ailing again.

“There’s a little bit of asymmetry on his mouth and we’re gonna see if that’s either an abscess or a growth or what, or something else,” said Jungle Island Doctor Jason Chatfield.

The 19-year old was carried from his nearby enclosure to a CAT scan unit on wheels, which was brought in just for him at Miami’s Jungle Island.

The 350-pound gator was adjusted onto the table until his large scaly body fit inside the machine.

But the CAT scan is just the first part of the process. The next step is for a radiologist to figure out just what’s making Casper sick and lethargic.

He already lost some 20 pounds.

“We wanted to make sure we are doing everything we can to take care of this guy,” said Chatfield.

Once they get the radiology report they’ll decide what they’re going to do next.
